Colorado Senate Majority Leader Learns About EMS Challenges During Denver Health Ambulance Ride-Along
By Chris Howes

On the afternoon of September 16th Denver Health hosted a ride-along for Colorado Senate Majority Leader Robert Rodriguez of Denver. Rodriguez told the crew that he really enjoyed his time with them and learned a lot about the challenges of EMS professionals in Denver, spanning from patient safety to EMS safety to payment to access of services.
Senator Rodriguez accompanied the team to five separate calls throughout the City of Denver, all highlighting the patient centered nature of the work. He’s urging other members of the Colorado Senate to schedule their own ride-alongs. EMSAC will continue to schedule site visits and meetings with important leaders such as Rodriguez throughout this autumn.
A Coloradan since he was 4 years old, Senator Rodriguez has represented Senate District 32 (southern Denver) since being elected in 2018. He is known as a no-nonsense communicator and our EMSAC lobbying team has always had a good relationship with his office. It’s great to see the leadership in the Colorado take an interest in EMS our the state’s largest city.
Before being elected to the Senate, Senator Rodriguez was director of business management at Independence House, an organization founded by his father to help former criminal offenders re-enter society. He believes in fixing the criminal justice system by means of sentencing reform, substance abuse, and mental health counseling, and rehabilitation programs like the one his family has run for decades. Robert lives in Virginia Village with his wife Deidre and their two dogs & two cats.
